Broccoli Planted

The Pellets before water:

Pellets after water:
Planted with Burpee's George's favorite Blend (most of it) and 6 of them with Ferry-Morse's De Cicco, but those seeds are a few years old and here it all is setting in the window:

Sorry and Smoke

I'm sorry I haven't posted much things got busy, but I finally got new batteries so I have a video to upload. But currently I'm not sure what is going on. There is a firetruck parked by our neighbors and there is smoke in the air. From a quick listen to them talking on the radio it sounds more like there is a brush fire then a house fire. I'll update you when I find out more.

Down a Cuckoo Marans

Some how the coop door got open last night and I'm down a Cuckoo Marans. I did not find a body but I did find a lot of her feathers in a few different spots. To the amount I have no real doubts she is gone for good.

Goodbye pretty girl...

Silly Birds

Yesterday after I got home from helping my dad in his garage and my mom ran out to drop my sister off at a party. When she got back she walked in and said "Where do you want to eat, I don't fell like cooking." I thought about it for a minute and said "Lets go to Clarion, I don't fell like Joe's (local pizza/Italian place) or anywhere else local and we need chicken feed."

So we went in and ate at Applebees and then went to Walmart and then went to the mall. Let me explain the Clarion mall it lost almost all its stores in the past couple years like Borders, Hallmark, and Fashion Bug along with others and was left with JC Penny, the drivers center, Kmart, a hair salon, and the movie theater.  It added a few small, random stores over the past year, but resonantly it was announced that we are getting two new clothing stores and another unannounced one. But anyway we looked at what was playing and decided to come back and watch Red Riding Hood after we picked up chicken food.

Went to Tractor Supply and picked up the food, checked the chick bins (no chicks which was probably a good thing) and looked at random stuff. Then we headed back up too the mall and say Red Riding Hood, which was good and will be another post. But when we went home it was about 9 o'clock and fairly dark, not completely because as you probably know we had the brightest moon in something like 18 years. When we arrived home I headed down to the house to go in and wait for my mom to come with the keys to unlock the house. When I heard clucking, load clucking.

Getting a little bit worried I start trying to see anything out of the ordinary, when my mom says "Caitlin one of your chickens is up here." So I go out into the yard as mom says "There is two of them." And I spot who she is talking about, two of my Cuckoo Marans hens are out and about. The one comes running up to me and I automatically stoop down to pick her, even though none of my CMs like being held, but she let me pick her up and carry her. So I walk out to the coop spotting Red and one of the EE/BR roos and can't see or hear anything wrong at the coop. So I head back to the house still carrying the CM. By now my mom has unlocked the door and I grab a flashlight and head back out. I do a head count, including the roosters and one CM still outside, get 14 the correct number. Do a recount still the right number and everyone is fine. So I put the CM down on the roost and herd the others inside and lock-up.

So everyone is fine and there was no real signs of predators. So either they where messed up with the bright moon, a predator spooked them , or they where just being silly birds.

The Hunger Games- Katniss

I loved The Hunger Games and liked the second and third books. But they are now making it into a movie which always worries me, movies are almost never anywhere as good as the books. But now I'm even more worried they have cast Jennifer Lawrence (do a search) as Katniss. I don't think I've seen her act, but just her age and looks worries me more. Katniss is suppose to be dark skinned and haired, hairy, and been starved most of her life, Jennifer doesn't appear to be any of these things. So anyone else who loves The Hunger Games, what do you think?

High Dog

The dog is high, he is currently standing in the middle of the room staring at random objects with a cone of shame around his neck. At least he has a good excuse though we picked him up from neutered today, along with Carmel and Butterscotch (2 of our male cats). So he is sore and drugged up, but doing well and he doesn't seem to have any problems. The vets (and us)were worried about him because we thought he had a testicle that had never dropped, but it turns out it never formed, so they removed the "root" of it out. The cats are not as drugged up and have been eating and drinking, while Nick hasn't yet but has peed which is a good sign even if it was on the floor. Sorry no pictures today because we are once again out of batteries.

Three Years and Counting

My oldest birds, Chipmunk, George, 4 CMs, and a BA. Turn 3 years old today and I will have had chickens for 3 on the 19th. I'll try to get some pictures up of them today or tomorrow.

Death

Death is never pleasant or fun, but it's necessary. Today's went well as deaths go, yesterday I unfortunately did not get a good hit the first time due to the raccoon being in an odd position and I quickly realized this and  a second shot end it. Today the first shot was perfect and after  few quick spasms it was gone.

Excitement

Last night as I was laying on the couch rereading Brisingr, when suddenly we here a hen screaming. I jumped up knowing that my BA/EE hen had roosted in a tree (once again too high to knock out). When I got out there she was running to the house still screaming, I manged to grab her and carried her back to the coop. As I walked my headlight (so I have free hands) I saw eyes shine, about at the location of the havaheart trap. When I finally reached there, I saw who the eyes belonged to, a raccoon. So I looked the BA/EE in the coop and headed back to the house. Later when my mom was letting Nick out, another raccoon was stealing cat food so I'll have to set the trap again.

Today I took care of the raccoon, a female it turns out:

After I had deposed of the body, I saw a black short haired cat, my first thought was Blue Eyes. Until I saw it was too small and had the greenest eyes I have ever seen. I left it some food and hope to find out what happens to it. Here is the only semi descent picture I got of it and it doesn't show the eye color very well:
ETA: Caramel is doing better, he is no longer limping, but it is still swollen and sore.
